Pleasance is delighted to be programming the Kidzone at Serenata this year. Enter our music-filled Jurassic world of weird and wonderful creatures and giant tipis. Look out for Peter and The Wolf and a Jumping Mouse. Come to Storysack with Andy, Alex and Mike from Cbeebies. Take part in our STOMP percussion and movement workshops, sing songs with Playsongs Plus and make a junk instrument with Retune It. Get creative and make your views known at the Mischief Makers Protest Camp. Watch Little Angel’s Brilliant Bag Show, interact with their marionettes and make puppets in their special workshops. Listen to stories, watch Andrew The Brilliant Balloon Man as he’s eaten alive by a monster balloon. Listen to music and talk to young musicians from the Royal Academy of Music, then have a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at wonderful Clavell’s Kids Café. Then round off the day at our special Serenata Children’s Concert.

Clavells Cafè from Kimmeridge will be open daily in the Kidzone from 9am for breakfast until 7pm. Enjoy home cooked, child friendly fodder, including lunch boxes and icecreams, with light lunches and tea available for adults. A place for adults to relax with a drink and the papers, while the children play!

Pleasance Theatre Trust is a registered charity that supports emerging talent in the arts. For more information about us please go to www.pleasance.co.uk.

Build a Phartapone out of Junk

Image016

Retune It use found materials, and everyday domestic and industrial objects, to make musical instruments. By designing musical instruments using recycled materials, Retune It aims to open up young minds to view the world around them in different ways, and show children and young adults in education a new way of looking at the everyday objects we discard as rubbish. We make beauty out of rubbish and add value to the worthless. Retune It employs recycling and green technologies and where recycled materials are not available, Retune It uses the greenest materials to hand.

We will be using everyday packaging to make 'Phartaphones'. You can help your child to make this amazing, loud and hilarious musical instrument, which they will play all day. This is a great introduction for young children and adults to start rethinking rubbish in the home. http://www.retuneit.co.uk/

Build a Batonka

In this workshop we will be building batonkas, using recycled materials, and learning about how sound and music is made. Build a Phartapone

'Phartaphones' are a hit with kids of all ages, and adults too. We will make 'Phartaphones' from everyday packaging and you can then customise them in whatever way you like. We will be adding tuning pipes to the basic 'Phartaphone' so that we can perform simple tunes together. Design, Recycling, teamwork, performance, this workshop has everything

Stomp Workshop (for under fives)

Image002

The Multi-award winning show STOMP has no words - everyone can understand it. It has little or no melody in the traditional sense, so it doesn't matter if your taste in music is jazz, classical, dance or pop. STOMP is about rhythm, which is common to all cultures. Everyone knows rhythm, if only from the beating of their own heart - it is the basis of all music. Come and explore your physicality, co-ordination, and dexterity, with our STOMP rhythm and movement workshops. The experience begins with the basic building blocks of rhythm and invites you to explore performance and music using everyday objects. http://www.stomp.co.uk/

Are you a young person with something to say? Do you have ideas that must be heard? Creative, rebellious children are invited to join us to make a colourful installation of cloth banners, placards and peg doll demonstrations. The Mischief Makers are visual artists who work with young people enabling them to express themselves visually. We use recycled materials to create beautiful cloth banners, hand held placards and peg doll protests. We encourage young people to have a voice, previous slogans have included 'Oi grown ups, stop wasting our balloons!' and 'I want to surf on the moon. (have attached their flyer). http://themischiefmakers.wordpress.com/
